How to Plant & Grow:

Site Preparation: Broccolini requires full sun and loose, deeply fertile soil rich in organic matter. Work 3-4 inches of well-rotted compost into the soil before planting to ensure rapid, tender stem growth.
Sowing: Direct sow seeds outdoors in early spring (4-6 weeks before the last frost) or late summer for a fall crop. Plant seeds ¼ to ½ inch (0.6 to 1.2 cm) deep and cover lightly with fine soil. Keep the seedbed consistently moist.

Spacing:

For dense baby shoots: Thin to 6 inches (15 cm) apart in rows 12 inches (30 cm) apart.
For Full-Sized, Shade-Sensitive Plants: Thin to 12 inches (30 cm) apart in rows 18 inches (45 cm) apart. Good airflow prevents fungal diseases.
Square Foot Gardening: Plant 1 plant per 1-square-foot area. Do not overcrowd.
Watering: Consistent deep watering is critical for this vegetable (about 1-1.5 inches per week). Fluctuating moisture will cause the stems to become woody and the flavor to become bitter.
Harvesting:
Main Harvest: When the central shoot reaches 6-8 inches long and the tiny yellow flower buds are tight and green (as shown in your pictures), use sharp scissors to cut the main stalk about 2 inches (5 cm) above the soil line.

Side Shoot Harvest: Leave the lower leaves intact. Within 2-3 weeks, new small heads will sprout from the leaf axils. Keep cutting these "baby" shoots as they appear for continuous eating!
Gardener's Tip: Broccolini can be prone to cabbage worms (caterpillars). Use a lightweight floating row cover over your plants, or inspect the undersides of leaves regularly and hand-pick pests.
