How to Plant & Grow:

Site Preparation: Choose a location with full sun to partial afternoon shade. Mizuna prefers loose, fertile, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Work 3 inches of aged compost into the top 6 inches of the soil.
Sowing: Direct sow seeds outdoors in early spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or in late summer for a spectacular fall/winter harvest. Plant seeds ¼ to ½ inch (0.6-1.2 cm) deep and cover lightly with fine soil. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination (5-7 days).

Spacing:

For Mature Full Plants: Thin seedlings to 10 to 12 inches (25-30 cm) apart in rows spaced 12 to 18 inches (30-45 cm) apart.
For Continuous Baby Leaf Harvest: Sow seeds densely at 2 to 4 inches (5-10 cm) apart and snip leaves when young.
Square Foot Gardening (SFG): Plant 4 plants per 1-square-foot area for mature growth.
Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist. Provide about 1 inch of water per week. Consistent moisture is the secret to tender, non-bitter greens.
Harvesting: Using sharp scissors, snip the outer stems and leaves about 2 inches above the soil line. Leave the central core untouched, and it will rapidly regrow fresh leaves for repeated harvests.
