How to Plant & Grow:

Site Preparation: Choose a location with full sun to partial shade. Mustard greens prefer loose, fertile, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Work 3 inches of aged compost into the top 6 inches of the soil to support their massive growth.
Sowing: Direct sow seeds outdoors in early spring, or for the best results, plant in late summer for a spectacular fall/winter harvest. Plant seeds ¼ to ½ inch (0.6-1.2 cm) deep and cover lightly. Keep the soil consistently moist until germination (4-7 days).

Spacing:

For Giant Mature Plants: Thin seedlings to 18 to 24 inches (45-60 cm) apart in rows spaced 24 to 36 inches (60-90 cm) apart. They need lots of room to reach their full, massive size!
For Smaller/Intensive Harvest: Space plants 12 inches (30 cm) apart.
Square Foot Gardening (SFG): Plant 1 plant per 1-square-foot area for full-size heads.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist. Provide about 1 inch of water per week. Consistent moisture ensures the thick stalks stay tender and juicy.
Harvesting: You can harvest the entire plant when it reaches full size (usually 50-60 days), OR, you can snap off the outer lower leaves and let the inner core keep growing for repeated harvests. Cut the thick stalks near the base with a sharp knife.
Gardener's Tip: Harvest after a light frost! This variety tastes its absolute sweetest and most tender after it has been touched by a light fall frost. The cold triggers the plant to convert its starches into natural sugars!
