La primera calabaza festoneada amarilla que se desarrolló, Sunburst, es temprana, productiva y ganadora del premio All America Selections. La calabaza bebé, de 2 a 3" de diámetro, se puede cosechar temprano o se puede dejar que la fruta madure hasta alcanzar un tamaño de 5 a 6". Se producen buenos rendimientos en plantas tipo arbusto. La fruta tiene un delicado sabor a mantequilla.

COMIENZA A SEMBRAR SEMILLAS AL AIRE LIBRE
La calabaza necesita pleno sol, suelo fértil y rico y temperaturas cálidas. Plántela solo cuando el clima primaveral sea cálido y estable y las temperaturas nocturnas se mantengan por encima de los 50 °F (10 °C). Siembre grupos de 2 a 3 semillas a 1 pulgada de profundidad y 1 1/2 pies de distancia en hileras separadas por 2 pies. Cuando las plántulas tengan varios centímetros de altura, aclare hasta dejar 1 plántula fuerte por grupo. O plante en montículos ligeramente amontonados, de 2 pies de diámetro y 2 pies de distancia. Siembre de 5 a 6 semillas a 1 pulgada de profundidad y 4 pulgadas de distancia en cada montículo. COSECHA Y UTILIZACIÓN
Coseche las vieiras cuando no tengan más de 5 a 7,5 cm de diámetro para obtener el mejor sabor y ternura. La cosecha frecuente permite que las plantas produzcan nuevas y sabrosas calabazas en lugar de madurar calabazas grandes, duras y fibrosas. Cocine al vapor o saltee las pequeñas calabazas y espolvoree con hierbas frescas picadas como cebollino, albahaca, eneldo finamente picado o albahaca limón. Cocine y mezcle las calabazas pequeñas con pimienta recién molida, mantequilla y queso parmesano rallado.
