🌿El fruto del pezón (Solanum mammosum), también llamado 'ubre de vaca', 'fruto de las tetas', 'manzana de Sodoma' y 'cabeza de zorro', es una planta anual increíblemente extraña de la familia Solanum (tomate). Es originaria de la zona tropical de América del Sur.

🌿La planta se cultiva con fines ornamentales, en parte debido a que el extremo del fruto se parece a un pecho humano, mientras que el extremo proximal parece una ubre de vaca. Como parte del género Solanum, la planta está relacionada con la berenjena, el tomate y la papa. Esta fruta venenosa se ha naturalizado en el sur de México, América Central y el Caribe.

🌿La planta se adapta bien a la mayoría de los suelos, pero prospera en suelos húmedos y arcillosos. Esta pequeña planta perenne arbustiva se puede cultivar como anual o perenne en áreas más cálidas.

Las hojas de la planta del fruto del pezón están acentuadas por venas moradas y están cubiertas de un vello peludo, así como de pequeñas espinas prominentes. Las ramas y los tallos también están salpicados de espinas firmes y la planta crece hasta una altura de aproximadamente 3 a 4 pies. En primavera se desarrollan unas preciosas flores de color rosa púrpura seguidas rápidamente por el fruto decorativo amarillo que le da nombre.
