How to Plant & Grow:

Site Preparation (Crucial Step): Carrots need deep, loose, and rock-free soil. They will fork, twist, and grow stunted if they hit rocks or hard clumps of clay. Work the soil at least 10–12 inches (25–30 cm) deep, removing all stones, and mix in 2-3 inches of well-aged compost.
Sowing: Direct sow seeds outdoors in early spring (2-3 weeks before the last frost) or in late summer for a fall crop. Carrot seeds are tiny; do not plant them too deep. Plant seeds ¼ inch (0.6 cm) deep and cover lightly with fine soil. Keep the seedbed consistently moist until germination (7-14 days).

Spacing:

For Straight, Plump Roots: After seedlings emerge and reach 2 inches tall, thin them to 2 to 3 inches (5-7 cm) apart in rows spaced 12 to 18 inches (30-45 cm) apart.
Square Foot Gardening (SFG): Plant 16 carrots per 1-square-foot area (4 rows x 4 rows, spaced 3 inches apart).
Watering: Consistent, even moisture is the secret to sweet carrots! Provide 1 inch of water per week. Fluctuating moisture (dry then wet) will cause the roots to split and crack.
