Description
This plant is the most prolific flower we've grown on our farm, period. Lemon Bee Balm (Monarda citriodora) has a more rapid growth rate than its Bergamot Lavender relative; a few spring plants of this mint-family rhizome that a small stand of plants will fill out a wide swath of garden area by autumn. Plants form dense pink / light purple blossoms five to six inches tall, and like the name suggest, bees absolutely love this stuff. Has similar plant uses to Bergamot Lavender; plant foliage has an oregano scent when crushed.

Planting Details
Bee Balm is the easiest to start from seed during the springtime-outdoors in a seedling container or in a greenhouse. Sow seeds on the surface of the soil, then gently press the seeds into the soil by hand and lightly water. Keep seeds consistently moist throughout their germination period and early life phase. Full sun is required for germination. Transplant seedlings into the garden when tall enough to be visually identifiable - this is especially important if you are planting in an area with competition from other garden weeds.
Plants will flower modestly in their first year, but second year and onward flowerings are really where the plants shine. When plants go dormant in the fall they can be divided from cuttings and propagated for transplanting.
