How to Plant & Grow:

• Site Preparation: Choose a location with full sun to partial shade. Ornamental Kale grows best in fertile, well-draining soil. If planting in pots, use a good quality, high-drainage potting mix.
  
• Sowing: Timing is critical! You must plant this in mid-to-late summer (July to early August) so the heads have time to form their brilliant colors before the hard freezes of winter hit. Plant seeds ¼ to ½ inch (0.6-1.2 cm) deep and cover lightly. Keep soil moist until germination (5-10 days).
  

Spacing:

• For Compact, Large "Roses": Space seedlings 12 to 18 inches (30-45 cm) apart.
  
• For Container/Pot Growth: Plant 1 plant per 10-12 inch diameter pot.
  
• Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water at the base to avoid fungal issues. Once the vibrant colors appear in fall, they require less frequent watering.
• Harvesting : Ornamental Kale is not harvested for eating; its beauty is the harvest! Simply enjoy the plants in your garden or containers throughout the winter months. If you want to bring the beauty indoors, cut the "rose" head off at the base and place it in a vase with shallow water—it will last for weeks!
• Gardener's Tip: Why do the colors get so bright? Ornamental Kale actually needs a dip in temperature (below 50°F) to trigger the beautiful pink and white pigments in its center. If the weather stays too warm (above 70°F), it will stay green. Don't worry if it looks green in late summer—the cold weather will unlock its true colors!
