Caraflex es una planta que todo aquel que busque hojas de un tamaño y una calidad excepcionales debe cultivar. Su forma puntiaguda inusual le permite espaciar las plantas o cultivarla como un mini cogollo. Los cogollos de 1½ a 2 libras tienen hojas de sabor suave y muy dulce que recuerdan a la lechuga, ideales para wraps y ensaladas frescas. Alta resistencia al amarillamiento por fusarium.

PARA EMPEZAR EN INTERIOR
Comience a sembrar las semillas de 4 a 5 semanas antes de la última helada de primavera. Siembre a 1 pulgada de distancia en una mezcla para semillas, cubra a 1/2 pulgada de profundidad y mantenga la humedad uniforme. Proporcione una fuente de luz fuerte hasta que las plántulas estén listas para plantar. Cuando tengan varios centímetros de altura, trasplante las plántulas a 10 pulgadas de distancia en tierra rica a pleno sol, después de aclimatarse gradualmente a las condiciones exteriores.

PARA COMENZAR DIRECTAMENTE AL AIRE LIBRE
Cuando haya pasado todo peligro de heladas, plante en un suelo fértil y bien trabajado a pleno sol. Siembre grupos de 2 a 3 semillas a 25 cm de distancia en hileras separadas por 30 cm. Cuando las plántulas tengan varios centímetros de altura, aclare hasta dejar una planta fuerte cada 25 cm. Zonas de invierno templado: vuelva a sembrar a mediados del verano para obtener una cosecha de otoño.

NOTAS DE CRECIMIENTO
El repollo necesita pleno sol y un suelo rico y bien drenado para producir cabezas firmes y dulces. Para evitar que el crecimiento se detenga, no deje que las plántulas se amontonen antes de aclararlas o trasplantarlas. Mantenga las plantas desmalezadas y riéguelas de manera uniforme. Fertilice mensualmente con emulsión de pescado o cualquier fertilizante con alto contenido de nitrógeno. Utilice BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) no tóxico para las plagas de orugas. Las cubiertas flotantes para hileras proporcionan un buen método de barrera para excluir las plagas. Retire las cubiertas cuando comiencen a formarse las cabezas.
